People
CADVision consisted of 80-odd people. They were the ones who really made the company a success — their belief in the potential of the Internet, and their tireless efforts to get everyone online.
Customer Service
At least 20 staff members handled corporate and consumer customer-service calls. It was a demanding role — 50 calls a day was not unusual. Across the company, a typical day meant over 1,000 phone calls and 3,000 emails.
Technical Support
Technical support was one of the hardest roles at CADVision. The patience required to get every type of computer, operating system and browser working — over the phone, for a city just getting online — was exceptional. The desk ran long hours, seven days a week, and the people on it were the company's front line.
Systems
From running servers to checking modem pools to diagnosing slow ADSL lines, the people in the back made the infrastructure run. It meant being on call almost 24×7.
